Hi Amy,

Happy July!! Ahhhhh, summer is HERE and I am fully loving the FREEDOMS of summer! My pace has slowed down (it’s too hot to rush!), my feet are shoeless (except on the hot sand!), and I am taking “summer self-care” on the beach. I am happy to share that I’ll be speaking at the Mid-Summer Sizzling Self-Care Workshop in Raleigh July 13 benefitting Christ Saves Lives. Sharing vulnerably with others, leaving them free from their own disempowering thoughts is a passion for me. I can’t decide what I'm more excited about - July SummerFUN times or my “work” helping others clarify what they want, what’s holding them back from getting it, and seeing their OWN power and beauty to move forward authentically. Better than fireworks and hotdogs!

Beyond Sunscreen: Mastering Self-Care This Summer 🌞

This month, I'm thrilled to dive into the essence of self-care at a live event in Raleigh. (Grab your tickets here!)

But let's be clear, we're not just talking about slathering on sunscreen or staying hydrated. We're exploring the deeper mindset shifts and practices that remind us why those actions matter in the first place. Self-care transcends mere actions; it's about adopting an intentional way of BEING. It's about choosing to prioritize our needs, like applying sunscreen for ourselves before tending to others, and hydrating in a way that truly satisfies us, not just mimicking our partner's choices.

Wondering how to embark on this transformative journey?

Take a tiny first step: tune into your feelings of irritation, exhaustion, or numbness. These emotions signal unmet needs that you might be: 

  • ignoring, (“I’m fine”, “all good”, “don’t need any help here!”)
  • sidelining, (I’ll do that later, I can wait!)
  • hoping someone else will fulfill for you (silent thoughts of “if they loved me, they’d do that for me!)
  • denying your needs, often out of guilt or a belief that you don't deserve it (that’s too much, I can just push through)

Summer brings its own brand of chaos: shifting childcare, reduced sleeptime with longer playdays and early work mornings, the hustle of vacation prep and recovery, and the cherished yet challenging family time. Amidst the seasonal whirlwind, I encourage you to practice SELF-NOTICING. It's the foundational step towards truly embodying self-care. Remember, as Elie Wiesel poignantly put it, "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference." Let this summer be your starting point for a journey of self-awareness and intentional living.


Cool Tool, Tip or Resource

Just made this cool treat for myself. It’s a game changer to satisfy hot-day-ice-cream urges without the sweet!

Amy’s Icey Treat
Place a muffin tin in the freezer. Blend equal parts coconut heavy cream and dairy heavy cream with vanilla and a pinch of Himalayan salt and whatever flavoring you want. (a couple ounces of cold brew concentrate is my fav!). Add a sweetener of choice to taste if you would like. Fill up the cold muffin tin and freeze for 3 - 4 hours before serving. ~ I did not use a sweetener in my treat - the heavy creams were sweet enough for me!
