Hello dear friends and community members!

I hope this newsletter finds you enjoying the first part of April and all the wonders of brand new life that happen this time of year. It is a hopeful time of year for me - I always feel enlivened by nature's "greening-up".

In the spring of 1984, I had my first spiritual connection with springtime wonder. My Papa (my mom’s dad) died that year. I was 11 years old. It was quite a loss as he was  the most gentle man I had ever known, with his still blue eyes and an easy chuckle that he shared around the dinner table with my family. My memory of the day of his funeral (still crystal clear) is not how horribly sad I was, but how beautiful that spring day was. Green and lush, not too hot yet, with sun shining and a Carolina blue sky. Somehow I felt God had made that day in all its newness and comfort just for my family and me. There’s always something to be super stoked and grateful about, even when you are not sure what is yet to come. Miracles abound!

Last newsletter, Fran and I announced the change of the business name and the addition of therapy services. Well, we are taking a u-turn. Fran will be pursuing her own path and is no longer a part of Healthy Life Coaching and Therapy Services. I wish her all the best.

Moving forward in this new direction, I am happy to re-brand with a name and services that align with my passion - coaching people to create the health they want in support of a life they love.

Patience...necessary or not?

PATIENCE. Man, that’s a challenging word for me! I recently read a passage in James Clear’s Atomic Habits that I both agreed with and disagreed with. He writes on page 28, “Small changes often appear to make no difference until you cross a critical threshold. The most powerful outcomes of any compounding process are delayed. YOU NEED TO BE PATIENT.” 

You need to be patient. I disagree. 

Consistency and time are required for compounding, awesome-sauce, transformative results. What is not required is how you “feel” about doing the actions consistently and over time. You could just keep doing the actions while feeling impatient and victimized. This is a disempowered state. However, being consistent and disempowered will yield the same results as being consistent and empowered. Until you look at the ripple…

If the results are the same, why would you want to address your state of being - empowered versus disempowered?

There’s a whole host of reasons! For this newsletter I’ll stick to just one: the ripple. When you add in empowerment you grow in confidence, capability, and motivation. Soon, you begin to "experience yourself” as a person who can be trusted to do hard things. The newfound identity opens you up to attempt challenges you previously would never have tried.

Here’s a couple coaching questions for you to ponder - 

  • Where in your life do you follow desired actions consistently but suffer/fall victim to those actions?
  • When in your life have you followed consistent actions in an empowered way? 
  • What “ripple” effect occurred as a result of your empowered actions?
