Happy April Everyone! I am so glad to be firmly in spring!! Yay! More daylight does me happy. When this newsletter goes out, I’ll be on vacation with hundreds of other Avett Brothers fans at Avett Brothers at the Beach. It’s my third time going, and I am absolutely over the moon to be attending again this year. I yearn for the connectivity I feel when swaying and singing to the vulnerable, real life lyrics and energy filled americana-folk-bluegrass-rock fusion of TAB with hundreds of other fansone! I am so glad to be firmly in spring!! Yay! More daylight does me happy. When this newsletter goes out, I’ll be on vacation with hundreds of other Avett Brothers fans at Avett Brothers at the Beach. It’s my third time going, and I am a, all of us bonded with that “SAY LOVE” vibe. Brene Brown writes, “...music emerged as one of the most powerful conveners of collective joy and pain.” (see full article here) and I believe that 100%. However you do it - May you experience collective joy, or even collective pain, and the connection to one another that is found in both.
The day will come, the sun will rise, and we’ll be fine! Amy

The OFTEN-MISSED-KEY to cultivating spirituality
I chose to explore spirituality this month in all the content I share on my socials and podcast and upcoming LIVE speaking event in Hickory, NC on April 23! Lots and lots of thoughts on spirituality. AND YET, I’ve felt a little disconnected lately from my spiritual side. And then I realized what was missing, what always helps me reconnect to the deepest spiritual place in me – unscheduled time. I’ve written about this before in a different context, but not in how it impacts spirituality. The universe keeps handing me this lesson of how important unscheduled time really is, and I keep having to relearn it. So try it out, and notice the effects on your peace, serenity, creativity, productivity, motivation, sense of self, confidence, connectedness, and the deep, deep knowing that is our spirituality.
Top 10 Rules for Unscheduled Time:
-
Nothing is pre-scheduled during unscheduled time- your friend’s backyard BBQ, that movie you want to go see, even getting ahead on work emails. Nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, is scheduled during unscheduled time.
- Have no expectations of unscheduled time
-
Self check in- Ask yourself, “What in this moment is the best thing for me to do for myself?” Let any answer come that comes.
-
Trust the answers that come- It might be to wash the car, get my nails done, lay around and watch Netflix, go exercise, meal prep, call a friend, go to the beach, and do nothing. Trust that whatever your body tells you is the right thing for you during your unscheduled time.
-
Stop when your body says stop- If you do something during unscheduled time, check in often and listen when your body says to stop. Maybe you started the laundry, and it felt good for a while, but you're beginning to get tired. Then your body says, well, maybe a nap would be good, and that’s okay.
- See number four
-
Do not trust old thoughts- They sound like “I should be doing more”, “I could get ahead on my work right now”, “I can’t believe I’m just resting” or any other thought that starts with “I SHOULD” or “I HAVE TO”. This also applies to emotions of old patterning such as guilt, unworthiness, anxiety about what’s next on your calendar.
-
Set an alarm for the end of unscheduled time- So you do not feel anxious and constantly check the time. Relax, the alarm will go off, and that's how you will know it’s time.
-
Let your thoughts swim– not spin, mind you, swim. Like flowing through water. It’s the perfect time for new ideas, connections, observations, and solutions to problems that conscious, forced thinking don't solve.
-
Pay attention to all these things- peace, serenity, creativity, productivity, motivation, sense of self, confidence, connectedness, and the deep knowing- for the rest of the day and the couple days after your unscheduled time.
