Hi Amy,

Happy Holiday season everyone! Entering into a season of gratitude, I am most glad the election here in the U.S. is complete. I have had a plethora of jumbled emotions, thoughts, and fears as I am sure most of us have. After the election results were announced, I spent time honoring my experience of the results (about 2 days!). This valuable time in solitude, prayer, and nature helped me begin accepting realities that I didn’t like and accepting realities that brought relief. If you feel a little beat up after a very intense, expensive, divisive season, please take the time to love yourself up. YOU MATTER!

Nothing Short of Thankful,
Amy

Falling Forward

When we fall, how do we rise?

We’ve spent the last few weeks in book club using the book Rising Strong by Brene Brown as a catalyst for growth in group coaching. Participants have jumped in the deep end of what it means to fall, face down in the dirt and how to get up and move forward. Imagine a big pot of vulnerability, honest reflections and tough realizations. Falling, getting up, and rising strong does not happen in 3 simple steps - but here’s 3 clues that you actually HAVE taken a fall, so you can pause, get up mindfully, and rise strong with intention.

  • Clue #1: You are angry about something and sure that someone “did something” to you. You hear thoughts like, “Well if he hadn’t have…” or “It’s not my fault!” or “Well that’s what you get when you…”
  • Clue #2: You are hurt or upset by a verbal exchange and find yourself rehearsing the snappy comebacks over and over in your head. You may hear thoughts like, “Oh yea, well that’s stupid and so are you!” or “Next time I’m gonna sit his as$ down and point out …insert insult here!…”

  • Clue #3: You are feeling defeated or embarrassed and hear yourself making lists of how much better you are than the other person, the situation, or task at hand. Sounds in your head like, “He’s not all that - I’m much better at…” or “This is such a stupid project anyway!” or “If they really had a quality project they would have done it this way; I told them how they should have done it. Last year mine was so much better because I know how to actually do it!”

If you hear these clues, take heed - you are likely very close to acting in a way that is more about your ego and less about your values. Actions, including words and non-words, (ie. looks, attitudes, walking out, slamming doors) that are sourced from our bruised egos destroy connection with others and in the end of the day, with ourselves.

Know your clues. Take time for reflection and clarity. Act out of integrity and commitment to your best self. The rest will work itself out.❤️
