Healthy Life Health and Wellness Coaching

Wow—happy new year, and welcome to 2026. I chose the theme of this month because I see how community, and the connection we get through that community, is sustaining for our positive growth. I’m starting a new women’s group this year and looking for 5 to 10 women to join us on a year-long journey of evolution. And it happens through community. It’s a sense and a power that provides grace, acceptance, and accountability. (Curious? Learn more HERE)

I got to see how this all played out over my New Year’s weekend, as is my tradition. New Year’s Eve is always spent at an Avett Brothers concert here in North Carolina. It is community for me, and it is surely connection. I’m always close to the stage, always on my feet, dancing and singing with others who are so moved by the lyrics and by the community rooted in the idea of love. I find it healing, and I’m always excited to go. This year was no different.

What was different was driving across the state on my way home on New Year’s Day and becoming stranded 90 minutes away from my destination. And it happened—I was in need of community. I was too far from home to make it by myself. The alternator in my car had failed, and there was no way she was going to get me home. I didn’t like it. I didn’t like having to ask for help, and I surely didn’t like being stuck in a place I didn’t know. There was nothing about that situation that had me feeling the same joy, community, and connectedness I had been experiencing just 12 hours earlier.

And then I got courageous. I leaned into community almost as a last resort. The blessings I received were far greater than the fear, vulnerability, and discomfort I felt in asking for them. One friend helped me work through the emotions I was having about the situation. One friend came to get me and bring me home. Another friend comforted me and gave me hope that the next day—January 2, which just so happens to be my birthday—would be a brand-new day.

And it was. My own personal new year, my January 2 birthday, was filled with peace, kindness, and trust—the things we can contemplate in solitude, but express and grow through in community. I haven’t known how to write this newsletter. Several deadlines have passed me by. It wasn’t until sunrise on January 2, my brand-new year, that I realized why I chose January’s theme of community, why I choose to run a year-long women’s coaching group, and why community is the key component to sustainable growth.

Happy new year to all of you. Here’s hoping you dive into community—the connection, the love, the comfort, the safety, the kindness, the play, and the growth that are available there.

Love y’all.
