Healthy Life Health and Wellness Coaching
Y'all, it's HOT. Like steamy steamed-dumplings hot. Like when you pour out the boiling pasta water and your face gets all trapped in the steam — skin bright red, glasses fogged up, can't catch a breath — steamy, uncomfortable hot.
And all this uncomfortable heat has me feeling antsy. The house feels too cold but outside is too oppressive. I want to get work done and then take my walk, but I can't even sit on the front porch, much less walk in the midday sun.
But August has always been this way, hasn't it?
August is such a funny little month. Summer is on its way out — and it's been fun, don't get me wrong. We look forward to it every year: vacations, running around barefoot, jumping in the ocean. Then August comes. And the heat. This year seems extra August-y.
In August, we have already summered. The furnace turns up and we stay inside so we don't melt. And then the thoughts come… well, a little cold snap wouldn't be bad. Autumn is a pretty time of year. Man, I can't wait until I'm not taking three showers a day, never mind the laundry.
Our thoughts tiptoe quietly from the free play of summer to the settled cozy of fall. Just like that, the uncomfortable, stifling heat of August helps us transition gratefully into crisp mornings, shorter restful days, and a lot less sticky sweat.

P.S. Transitions — in seasons, in life, in who we're becoming. This month's podcast with Suzy Brown of MidlifeDivorceRecovery.com felt right at home in August. I think you'll feel that too.
Top 5 Lessons from August:
- Humidity is no joke! Preparation when going outside is key — pack extra snacks, hydrate with electrolytes, plan for plenty of shade breaks, and expect your body to be affected by the temperature and humidity. Know the signs of heat exhaustion! A telltale sign for me is cool skin with chill bumps. Learn more HERE.
- Transitions are rarely comfortable — and in the discomfort there are many "invitations" to grow and learn. Like how to sit with being uncomfortable and trust that a shift is coming. Like focusing on the ONE next task instead of the suffering. Like learning to self-soothe and build gratitude. The discomfort is not the destination — it's the doorway.
- Avoid outdoor activities from roughly 2–5pm — get out early or later in the evening!
- Embrace the curly hair frizz!!

The "dog days of summer" origin story is as cool as ice cubes. Astronomy! And I am here for it 🙋🏽♀️ Check it out HERE.
